An alumnus of the University of Calabar, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nigerian Law School and University of Lagos, where he obtained his BA, LLB, BL and LLM respectively. He was appointed a Notary Public in 2001 and served in the Capital Market Committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr Ihekweazu is a member of the American Society of International Law, Capital Market Solicitors Association of Nigeria, Construction and Infrastructure Chamber of Nigeria (CICN) and Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN). He has represented clients in a number of Insolvency matters, within and outside Nigeria and remains an active member of International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL International) and presently serves as a member of the Federal Ministry of Industries Trade and Investment Committee on Reform of Investment Laws and Policies. Mr Ihekweazu has handled a number of reported cases in all the Superior Courts of Record in Nigeria, including the High Courts, National Industrial Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Courts and has also occupied several Insolvency Offices and engagements as Liquidator, Receiver/Manager, Member of Committee of Inspection, Head Claims verification Committee as well as consultant to insolvency Office Holders. He is a member of the Advisory Board of African Film and Television Academy (AFTA) and also a Fellow of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria, where he serves as General Secretary, Council member and Vice Chair of the Legislative Committee.
Mr Ihekweazu has served as Executive Co-ordinator the NBA Human Rights Centre, Member NBA Lagos Branch Bye Laws Review Committee, Member Nigerian Bar Association Human Rights Committee (National), Co-Chair NBA Lagos Branch Dinner Committee, Member NBA Lagos Law Week Planning Committee and Member NBA National Anti-Corruption Commission in the past and has attended all NBA National Conferences in the last 14 years and remains an active member of the NBA. He has attended several UNCITRAL Working Sessions at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna and New York as well as consulted for the World Bank – Doing Business in Nigeria and has also served in the UNCITRAL ADHOC Special Committee under the UNCITRAL Group V on Insolvency Law. In addition, Mr Ihekweazu was Co-Facilitator and Group leader, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment Stakeholders Retreat on Reform of Insolvency Regime and Review of Draft Insolvency Bill, which said Bill has since been submitted to the National Assembly.
He has attended several Courses, Seminars, Workshops and Conferences both local and international and has published and presented several works on topics ranging from Commercial Law and Insolvency, Practice and Procedure, Anti-Corruption, Administrative and Regulatory Laws among others. Mr Ihekweazu is a lover of excellence and admirer of professionalism. He has advised and represented local and international Corporate Organizations in the Energy and Financial Sectors, Insolvency related matters, Oil and Gas, Capital Market, Criminal Law, Government and Regulatory Matters, in addition to advising Financial Institutions, Government and Non-Governmental Institutions. He remains a scholar and was a part time Lecturer with the ESUT Business School, Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria and an Adjunct Assessor at the Nigerian Law School. His Law Firm, Chikwem Chambers acts as Company Secretary to many reputable incorporated Companies and Organizations.
Mr. Ihekweazu is a member of Ikoyi Club 1938 where he presently serves in its Publications Sub-Committee. He is also a member of Aba Sports Club 1926, Zero-Corruption Coalition, Government College Umuahia Old Boys Association and The National Association of Catholic Lawyers (NACL).
